About
Our History
We are a family-owned and operated badminton facility, with decades of family roots in the sport. Coach Gao (head founder) has been coaching players formally and informally for years, including his own daughter and co-founder Grace. And with strong foundations and interest, Grace went on to be trained by a two time Olympic gold medalist and representing Team Canada at the 2012 London Games. Having noticed the lack of professional facilities in the Calgary area as well as wanting to establish their own community, Grace and Coach Gao joined forces to start Smash City Calgary. Along with our other home facility, Gao Badminton Tao continues to grow and focus on carrying forward our family roots.

We develop high-performance players through five key elements. By fostering a healthy yet competitive club environment, leveraging a collaborative coaching team, and applying data-driven methodologies, we cultivate elite athletes.
Our Mission
We focus on training players who can compete at the top provincial and national levels, as well as inspire and help players of all ages and abilities reach their full potential. Whether you play for recreation, competition, or personal growth, we aim to foster a lifelong love for badminton.
Facility & Amenities
Our facilities have all floating wood flooring, engineered to protect joints and enhance performance on the court. Designed to withstand, insulate, and provide our players the most comfortable play experience.

Community & Outreach
In addition to our regular programs, we also offer programs and coaching for businesses and schools. Whether on site at our Smash City location or at your school, we're here to connect you all through the game of badminton.

Personally, I believe that Gao Badminton Tao is the best badminton facility in Calgary. I went there a year ago and I've improved so much. Recommend anyone to go here. Great place, very open design.
